The typical Algerian candidate has strong reading comprehension — school and university leave a real grammatical base — and weaker spoken production, simply for lack of occasions to speak. The TCF Canada rewards almost the opposite of what people instinctively revise: it is not the grammar that is missing, it is fluency under a twelve-minute clock with no time to translate in your head.
Speaking task 2, the role play, is the textbook case. What is assessed there is your ability to ask questions, not to answer them. Many candidates arrive with prepared answers, get handed a scenario that requires them to interrogate an interlocutor, and go quiet. Knowing that in advance is worth several points on its own.
