This document is an internal draft and must be reviewed by legal counsel before publication.
1. Purpose
This policy describes the cookies and equivalent technologies used on the Examia platform, available at examia.tech, what each is for, how long it lasts and how you can control it.
It complements the privacy policy, which describes all personal data processing.
2. What "cookie" covers here
"Cookie" here means any tracker placed on or read from your device when you use the Service: cookies in the strict sense, but also browser storage (localStorage, sessionStorage) and equivalent technical identifiers.
Some of these trackers are essential to the Service: without them, authentication, form security and session persistence cannot work.
3. Categories used
Examia uses three categories of tracker and no advertising trackers. No cookie is placed for ad targeting, retargeting or selling profiles to ad networks.
3.1 Strictly necessary trackers
These are placed without prior consent because they are essential to delivering a service you have expressly requested. They cover the session and authentication, protection against request forgery, load balancing across servers, and keeping a record of your tracker choice.
3.2 Measurement and analytics trackers
These help us understand how the Service is actually used: pages viewed, sign-up journeys, practice sessions started and finished, drop-off points. They are used to fix usability problems and prioritise changes.
These trackers are loaded only after you consent. Until you accept, the analytics script is not downloaded and no data is sent to the provider.
3.3 Functional preference trackers
These remember display choices so we do not have to ask again: interface language, the currency prices are shown in, dismissal of information banners, and exercise display preferences.

The periods shown are the maximum lifetime of each tracker. A tracker may be renewed on a later visit, without its total lifetime exceeding the period shown.
5. The consent banner
On your first visit, a banner offers three actions:
- Accept all — analytics and preference trackers are allowed;
- Reject — only strictly necessary trackers are placed;
- Customise — you choose category by category.
The accept and reject buttons are shown at the same level, with the same visibility. Nothing is pre-selected for the categories that require consent.
Refusing does not degrade the Service. All features, including practice, the simulators and marking, remain fully available if you refuse analytics.
Until you have either accepted or refused, no tracker subject to consent is placed. Not answering is not acceptance.
6. Changing your choice
Your choice is kept for 13 months, after which the banner reappears.
You can change it at any time before then:
- from the "Cookies" link in the footer of every page of the Service;
- from the matching section of your account settings, when you are signed in.
Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. It takes effect immediately: the trackers concerned stop loading, and those already placed in that category are removed on your next visit.
7. Browser controls
Independently of the banner, your browser can control cookies: block them entirely, block them for particular sites, delete them, or warn you before each one is placed. These settings are usually in the browser's privacy or security preferences.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies prevents authentication from working: you will not be able to sign in or reach your personal space.
Deleting cookies manually also erases the record of your choice. The banner will reappear on your next visit.
Some browsers and extensions send a general do-not-track signal. When that signal is detected, no analytics tracker is loaded until you make an explicit choice.
8. Third-party trackers
Analytics trackers are supplied by a product analytics provider acting as a sub-processor on Examia's instructions.
Payment pages may embed components supplied by the payment providers (Stripe, PayPal, CinetPay, PawaPay, Chargily). Those components place their own trackers, strictly necessary to secure the transaction and detect fraud, and are governed by the provider's own policy.
The Service embeds no advertising pixel and no social network share button that places a tracker when the page loads.
9. Data collected by analytics trackers
Analytics trackers produce usage data: page views, product events, session length, device type and an approximate country derived from the IP address. This data is kept for 25 months, as stated in the privacy policy.
It is not cross-referenced with your exam submissions and is never passed to third parties for advertising.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy is updated whenever a tracker is added, removed or has its purpose changed. The last-updated date appears at the top of the page. A change affecting a category subject to consent triggers a fresh request for your choice.
